Understanding your audience is essential to effective data communication. It is possible to do this by creating visuals that are engaging and convey information. Effective data communication can also require the use of the right words to convey the information.
A basic definition of communication is the transfer of information from one computer to the other over the internet or another medium. Information can range from a simple audio file to text messages. The data can be sent wirelessly or via wired medium. In order for two computers to be able to communicate they must have a means to connect. This is referred to as a channel or network.
Modern networks for data communications employ a variety of data transmission channels. There are three kinds of data transmission channels: simplex full-duplex, and duplex. Simplex mode allows data to flow in one direction at a given time and duplex mode permits both the receiver and sender to transmit simultaneously. Full-duplex mode works similarly to duplex but it requires that both the transmitter and receiver be synchronized for them to properly read the individual binary data bits of the transmitted signal.
Information that is transmitted using a data communication channel can either be digital messages sent by a microprocessor, or an analog signal (such as phone calls or video) that is digitalized by using pulse-code modulation. Any errors in the transmission data must be spotted and rectified to ensure only correct information is received by the receiver at the other end. This is usually done using a combination sequence numbers and acknowledgement codes.
