I’ve been slacking and not posting updates… Heck… I haven’t done much. Here’s the low down:
- World of Worldcraft
- Almost done with the stupid Onyxia Key Quest. Just have to do UBRS and kill Drakk.
- Started a rogue, even though I already have a rogue on this server at lvl 28 (he’s a WSG twink). Basically a waste of time when I’m bored and don’t feel like playing my priest.
- Getting pretty darn burnt out on this game. Maybe I’ll take a break.
- Yes. I’m still with the raid that burnt me. I’m a glutton for punishment.
- I like far more people than I dislike.
- G/F
- Congratulations on your last classes! Just 2 more finals, then graduation on Saturday.
- Spent last Sunday throwing end of classes celebration BBQ. Grilled up some steaks and some veggie’s (food network esque style).
- Went to the TCS (Technocultural Studies) screening.
- Kate’s piece was great. Short documentery on the life of a homeless man in Davis. Choice.
- Other very honorable mentions: Some guy’s 2hr (!) documentery that was very well put together named Tamborine Man. A three student collaboration that produced a very Pixar-esque short animation. When I say Pixar-esque, I mean that I could have easily believed that was a Pixar short at the beginning of their films.
- All-in-all… probably be coolest screening I’ve ever gone to (mmm.. those were good ribs). I mean… how many other majors have their end of year events at a bar?
- Attending Kate’s Graduation ceremony on Saturday… running off to Reno for Sunday/Monday to celebrate.
- Need to find a long lens to shoot Kate’s grad with.
- Other stuff
- Saw Pixar’s Cars. Review: Very good. Lots of references… even to the Car Talk guys on NPR. Trite story… but well executed. Not quite as good as Toy Story I/II, but better than Monsters Inc. On par with A Bug’s Life.
- The beginning Pixar short was quite entertaining too (One Man Band.)
- Planning to see Three Fast Three Furious: Tok-yo Drift with peeps on Friday. Expect to be bad, but I’ll get to see a multi-millon dollar special effects budget and fast cars. Meh.
- Installed the newest build of Ubuntu Linux (version: Dapper Drake) on my laptop. Wow. Very well executed. Heck… I perfer it to windows. It handles lots of stuff much cleaner. Now if I could get WoW on Linux I would just probably switch over.
- It’s Kat’s Birthday today! Happy Birthday! We plan to hang out and play some games and such.
- Gaming (non-WoW)
- Fury of Dracula (Fantasy Flight)-
- Kris picked this one up from Kubla.
- Not sure if I like it. I mean… its a Fantasy Flight, so it has that kind of feel…and the rules are kind of monolithic.
- Basically it’s a chase. It’s Dracula moving around Europe, and dropping cards face down of where he goes. If the other players who are not Dracula find him, then the reveals a card in his trail.
- It requires a really good sense of how the movement rules work, and it seemed like a lot of the games were just… oh Dracula cheated. Yay. Basically when Dracula moves somewhere where he shouldn’t have gone… then he loses 1/3 of his life and his immediate location gets revealed.
- It seems like a good strategy would be to purposely cheat. I mean… there are provisions in the rules for what happens when that happens… so I don’t quite see how one shouldn’t exploit that fact to teleport Dracula across Europe (and therefore make an illegal move) to throw the investigators off for like 8 turns as they struggle to figure out what the hell just happened.
- The opinion of the group is that this would make the game unfun. Maybe I’m just too much of a min-maxxer.
- I’ll have to check BGG later and see if anyone else does this kind of thing.
- Basically…out of our 2 games, both times, we ended it before the game was over. One time, Drac made too many mistakes and the other time the game took far too long.
- No Thanks!
- Z-man rereleased this game, and I picked it up for 10 bucks @ kubla.
- Very well recieved, very light game. Takes around 2 mins to teach. Basically an instant hit. Now I just need to laminate/sleeve the cards. Zev really cut corners on the cards themselves…
- Hex Hex!
- Though Kris didn’t think I’d like it… its a fun little party game that moves quickly. Though very luck based… if you play enough “rubbers,” the luck gets mitigated.
- You set up rules when you win… like mine was: “If you stay the word “pass” someone may call “heart” on you. If this happens, the “pass” person loses a point and the heart gains one. If you are forced to say the forbidden word, you may instead substitute the words “No Bid”.
- Lost Cities
- Renier Knizia game. 2 players. Picked up awhile ago.
- Everyone I’ve played the game with loves it.
- Traders of Venice
- Still no one wants to play it.
- Xbox 360
- New update to the xbox interface gave me lots of things I wanted, like downloads concurrent with gameplay and the ability to queue up downloads.
- On my buy list: Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, Gears of War, Table tennis.
