Boy, a lot happens in a month. You know, you walk through life, thinking: “Well, nothing to blog about today, not much happened.” Then you realize, “Holy crap. I haven’t posted in my blog in forever, and all sorts of stuff happened.”
Here’s the quick breakdown:
- Gaming
- World of Warcraft
- Reyia v Kawai
- Basically, someone screencaps me bitching about how much stuff sucks. He gets pissed, but makes Alderan deal with me. I get CR’ed, then stop playing. Lost all will to play with Reyia. Good example of how 1 asshole can spoil months of work.
- Xbox 360
- Dead Rising
- It’s totally sweet. Dead Rising is like Grand Theft Auto meets Resident evil.
- Pro: Lots and Lots of ways to kill mindless hordes of zombies. It’s hard enough to make me work for my money.
- Con: Stupid innocents are so freeking stupid. Shooting guns is unneccisarily difficult.
- Texas Hold’em
- Pretty Awesome for a free promo game.
- Enchanted Arms
- First Japanese style RPG for 360. I’ll tell ya how it is… it came out yesterday, and it should arrive today.
- Table Games
- A Game of Thrones
- Been playing it a lot lately, I happen to think that I’m none too shabby at it. I don’t win very often, and I am vocal a bit about how I think certain parts of it spoil the game.
- Not a big fan of the Leaders and how they break the fundamental mechanic of 1 order per turn.
- Not a big fan of the randomized event cards… I play this game to be mentally challenging, and I don’t really like the idea of introducing random randomness into the mix.
- Not a huge fan of the allies cards, but then again, I did get wrecked by them the first time I played the Storm of Swords 4 player map.
- Doom: The Board Game
- Busted it out again, and nerfed it to hell. My players blew though the game, but everyone had fun.
- Next time, I’ll jack up the difficulty significantly and see how things pan out.
- Twilight Imperium 3rd edition
- Had the (dis)pleasure of playing it 2 times. Boy… it’s a ton of things I dislike in a game combined with an 8 hour play time.
- Most of the game revolves around flipping over a card several times to earn points. Flipping the card when you can is more important than anything else in the game basically.
- You can lose before you begin playing… and then you’re just stuck playing an 8 hour unwinnable game.
- Meh. I’ll probably play it a couple more times.
- Magic: the Gathering
- Boy, Ravnica is such a damn good set that I don’t know how they top it. Been playing both online and off, and trying to figure out which I like the most.
- MTGO
- Pro: Can buy lots of cards on the cheap. Players whenever you want. Deckbuilding requires you to only have 4 copies of all cards.
- Con: Buggy at times, people are dumb and play tourney level decks in the casual room. Can’t bulk buy cards. Not as fun as it is in real life. I lose more games to interface than I do for bad play.
- Spent like 50 bucks.
- MTG
- Pro: Physical Cards. More fun in person
- Con: Expensive to get cards. No players around.
- Spent around 200 bucks on commons and uncommons.
- Hardware
- Picked up a Dell 2405fpw (24 inch wide screen monitor, HD ready).
- Boy, this thing is gihugic.
- For some reason, World of Warcraft runs better at 1920×1200 than it did at 1280×1024, and looks far better.
- Org at 1280×1024 = 12-25 fps.
- Org at 1980×1200 = 48-60 fps. WTF?!
- Plays Xbox 360 great too… in PiP!
- Work
- Put on a team to become expert in Macromedia Breeze. Fun times at Ridgemont High. At least it’s something for me to do at work
- Extended hours
- We’re moving to even more hours, 7-9pm. This gives me an opportunity to perhaps take a couple more classes. I can possibly take classes in the morning or evening sometime before or after work. Something to look at.
- Possibly thinking about taking a couple of art studio classes to really formally learn Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Possibly thinking about taking some kind of DBA class to learn more about creating sites that don’t suck.
- Possibly going to class.. something that I liked doing before anyway.
- Entertainment
- Movies I’ve seen
- Cars
- Good… clean Pixar fun. Dissapointed that it wasn’t nearly as “deep” as some of the other Pixar flix.
- A Scanner Darkly
- I enjoyed it… very acid trip. Definately something to see if you’re baked. Even if you aren’t, it certainly looks cool. I can’t speak for much for the story… I haven’t read the books, so I don’t really quite know if its accurate or not.
- Movies on my list to see
- Snakes on a Plane
- MP3’s and Podcasts
- Been getting into the podcast scene lately. Utilizing my PDA as a glorified mp3 player.
- Life
- New Membership to fitness club
- Decided that sitting on my ass all the time all day was probably not good.
- Got a year at the ARC.
- Hopefully I will go. Hopefully my friends will kick my ass until I go.
- Thoughts about going back to school
- See above.
- Writing in his blog for once in a long time.
- See above.
The thing about writing in a blog is that it’s really hard once you realize you are writing to no one. I mean, I do the work of doing something, for no one’s benefit. That’s why there are so many blogs that just die. I think it would really help me get motivated about writing if there were somebody out there… Or a lot of somebodys. Then there would be a community. Communities lean on each other to keep going. Right now… I’m just wasting my time. =(.
